This is inspired by the “Worst Car You Ever Drove” thread.
I’ll start. I got to ride in a Chrysler Turbine car at the New York World’s Fair. I remember it looking like a Comet or a Dart I think. It was the first time I sat in a bucket seat, which was in the back. I thought all cars had bench seats. The dashboard glowed. It only went around the Chrysler Pavilion in a circular ‘track’ and it sounded like a jet. I thought it could fly too! I loved it. I wanted my father to get one. Woosh! Zoom! Ready for take off Captain! |

I'm so jealous! I've always loved the Chrysler Turbine!
![]() I've owned and driven a lot of interesting cars. It's hard to pick one over another because they're all so different. My Morgan, my General Lee, my MG TC, even my Samurai are all quite out of the ordinary. But of all of them, I'd say my Pinzgauer is the most interesting because of all its unique features. It really is entertaining to just lie down on your back underneath the machine, looking up at all the quirky engineering. |

I had a chance to drive an Audi R8, it was awesome, the only thing better would be an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
![]() The next best was a BMW M3 convertible that a buddy of mine got for a weekend from his boss. It was modded to the hilt, and huge rear tires and was a blast to drive.

1968 Plymouth Roadrunner, 383 TorqueFlite.
Not the fastest thing on the road, but fast enough. The horn was a bonus. "Beep Beep".

I would love to pull up to work in one of those! The best that I could think of was a 1988 Toyota Supra MKIII Turbo (courtesy of a friend). It's a real sleeper! I also had a chance to drive a 2006 VW GLI, had it for one week. Friends started to think I had bought the thing. Then, there's the SX4. Not much to say about it other than I own it and it is far more than practical.

Probably the electric car my brother worked on for Exide in the '70s. 8 Hp engine, 2 speed transmission. Start out in high, switch to low. The roof and windshield lifted for entry. It was a sharp looking 2 seater, very low wedge shape, sort of like a sleeker Fiero.

It is very safe in that I will never get cut-off or carjacked while driving the thing. And whatever I can't go around, I can pretty much go over. But it handles like a Volkswagen Microbus on steroids, has pretty cruddy 4-wheel-drum brakes, and horrible rear & side visibility when the canvas top is on. My frequent commute to work in it is always an adventure. ![]() |
