i believe he already has the hookup for the ipod installed, he was just looking for information to either connect it to a regular mp3 player or a way to replace the iPod hookup all together. Tim's cable is a much more economical way to get the job done than the suzuki dealership option. still, good to have your input- and welcome to the forum ![]()

Thanks for the info. Google search yields this from Tim McCabe via http://www.suzuki-forums.com/2g-2006...-input-15.html " 07-17-2008, 06:24 AM #148 (permalink) TimMcCabe Expert Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Canada Posts: 381 Gallery: 0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boogie Van, 99980-AUXIL is for the 2007-2009 GV and SX4, it will not work with the 2006 GV. Cheers, Tim PS that part number is only available from a Suzuki dealer in Canada" I've got an e-mail into Tim re: his aux cable. Alternatively, anyone have any suggestions on how I, as a U.S. resident, could order one of the 99980-AUXIL from a Canadian Suzuki outlet? Thanks, |

The connector for the AUX on the stock single-CD player is amazingly simple to make. I built one in a few minutes from computer and electronic parts I had sitting around.... in other words, for free. It actually took longer to pull the trim from the console than to build and install the part!
I used one of those computer CD to sound card cables from an old internal CD drive... the one with black/red/white wires and small 4-pin connectors at either end. I used both ends, because the connector on the stereo is 8-pin. This CD part, when you place the plugs next to each other, fit perfectly. Looking at the back of the radio, you have 2 rows of 4 pins in the white AUX connector: First (top) row: 1-empty 2- empty 3-resistor 4-tip or left stereo channel 2d (Bottom) row: 5-empty 6-resistor 7-stereo ground 8-stereo right channel Kind of looks like this: x-x-R-SL x-R-G-SR You need to move 1 pin for the bottom row, because the connectors have the pin missing at #2. However, with a safety pin, you can push in the metal gently at the opening in the side and pull by the wire. Then reinsert next to the other 2 to make your 3-pin bottom row. No need to move the third pin in the top row, because you only use 2. (Plus, if you mess up the pin moving it the first time, you have a backup pin.) I cut the CD wire in half and used the wires to connect to a 1/8" stereo jack and to my resistor. About the resistor: most plans I found call for a 900-ohm to 1500-ohm resistor that you solder between pin 3 and pin 6. This "shorts" those together to activate the "AUX" function on the radio. I used 1500-ohm and it works great. I soldered the resistor to the wires running to those pins. Finally, the install. I pulled the radio out (remove trim, take out 4 screws, carefully pull radio and unplug) locate the connector on the back and carefully push in your new plug one piece at a time, making sure they're in the right place. I taped over the soldering and the resistor to make sure it didn't touch anything. I plugged in a 3-foot plug-to-plug extension to the new jack, rolled up the excess, and pushed one end over the panel into the passenger foot well. I later "squeezed" the wire into that space between the upper and lower consoles to make it neater. Radio and trim back in, plugged in my Pioneer XMP3, added the external antenna and power plug.... Ahhhh, music!! Yeah, sounds like a lot of work, but it was extremely simple. And even if you buy the parts, you're still talking $5 or less. Last edited by GerSan69 : 05-12-2009 at 02:29 PM. |

i doubt very seriously that someone who is merely interested in an adapter wants to go through the trouble of making their own wire... lol

How true!!!
I'm all for buying things that you can actually see for the car... I wouldn't try to make my own arm rest, for instance. Those hidden things, though, just cry out for a homemade solution.... and free is my favorite price!!! BTW - is there a Lil' Miss fan club? I want to join! |
